Advanced Charging Technology Appraisal

On April 17th, the "Advanced Charging Technology Appraisal Seminar" was successfully held in Shenzhen, hosted by Electric Transportation Intelligent Charging and Swapping Networks Professional Committee of the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering. iES Lab New Energy participated in the development of "Ultra-high-power and High-efficiency Flexible Charging and Discharging Key Technology and Demonstration Application" project, which was appraised by authoritative experts from the industry. The experts agreed unanimously that the technology had reached international leading level.

The appraisal expert group was composed of experts from various organizations, such as Russian Academy of Engineering, China Electricity Council, Institute of Electrical Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, State Grid Liaoning Electric Power Co., Ltd., Tsinghua University, Shandong University, NARI Group Corporation, and Jianke Public Facility Operation and Management Co., Ltd. Through visiting demonstration station, listening to project presentation, reviewing technical report, test report, economic benefit analysis report, scientific novelty report, application report and relevant technical materials, and asking and answering questions, experts unanimously confirmed that the megawatt-level fully-liquid-cooled flexible charging and discharging equipment developed in this project had a high conversion efficiency, and the grid-forming active support system delivered response speedily, and the project achievements reached international leading level.

I. Technical Breakthrough: A Tri-fold Innovation System

The ultra-high-power and high-efficiency flexible charging and discharging key technology features high-efficiency conversion, active support, and safety protection:

1. High-efficiency Energy Conversion: Based on the design of a three-port energy conversion and multi-segment bus architecture, it realizes optimal efficiency of new energy utilization, the coordinated dispatching of multiple energy sources, and the flexible interconnection and capacity expansion between photovoltaic and energy storage.

2. Active Grid Support: By integrating localized frequency control and grid-forming support technologies, it taps the potential of mobile energy storage and establishes an active support system featuring the rapid response of a new power system.

3. Battery Charging Safety Protection: Thanks to the multi-dimensional and multi-timescale battery risk diagnosis system with cloud-edge collaboration, it actively adjusts the charging strategy and improves battery safety protection ability.

II. Demonstration Effect: Setting Benchmark for "Zero Capacity Increase" Ultra-fast Charging Station

On the same day, iES Lab New Energy in collaboration with CAMS New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., held the opening ceremony of the first fully liquid-cooled flexible charging and discharging system demonstration station at Fuminda Science and Technology Innovation Center in Shenzhen. Zou Peng, Executive Secretary General of the Charging and Swapping Branch of China Association of Automobile Manufacturers and Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance, Zhou Xiantao, General Manager and CEO of CAMS New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., Ma Huajie, Deputy General Manager of iES Lab New Energy, and Shi Qi, General Manager of the South Region of CAMS New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. jointly witnessed the opening ceremony.

As a demonstration application of the ultra-high-power and high-efficiency flexible charging and discharging technology, this station is equipped with a complete photovoltaic-energy storage-charging-discharging integrated energy management system and a fully liquid-cooled flexible charging and discharging system. The power generated by photovoltaic is supplied to the charging station preferentially, and its excess energy is absorbed by the storage system, realizing diversified, intelligent, and efficient energy utilization.

Significant Advantages of the demonstration project:

1. High Charging Efficiency: The project utilizes the remaining capacity of the original transformer, combined with micro energy routing module, energy storage, and photovoltaic systems to achieve megawatt-level expansion without capacity increase, meeting the fast charging needs of customers.

2. Advanced Configuration: The station is equipped with a 1080kW megawatt-level liquid-cooled mainframe system, equipped with high-efficiency liquid-cooled ultra-fast charging terminals. The dual-gun simultaneous charging function is powerful, supporting the fast charging of large logistics vehicles.

3. Intelligent Operation: The energy storage works in coordination with the municipal power supply  to achieve megawatt-level flash charging, the photovoltaic system replenishes the energy storage system, and in case of an emergency, vehicles can charge one another, ensuring  safe power supply.

4. Cost-benefit: Compared with conventional charging stations and traditional photovoltaic-storage-charging solutions, this project adopts the ultra-high-power and high-efficiency flexible charging and discharging technology. With lower equipment cost and higher conversion efficiency, the total revenue in 10 years is significantly increased.

5. Environment Friendly: It makes full use of the rooftop photovoltaic system to reduce carbon emission and contributes to sustainable development.

6. Flexible Application: The energy storage battery can participate in peak regulation and respond to virtual power plant, increasing additional income and at the same time providing emergency support for the station.

III. IES Lab New Energy: Driving the Future of the Charging Industry with Innovative Technology

At present, iES Lab New Energy's ultra-high-power and high-efficiency flexible charging and discharging technology has been applied on a large scale in many provinces such as Shandong, Hubei, Hunan, and Guangdong, achieving a breakthrough in the improvement of charging efficiency and the enhancement of grid resilience. By constructing a coordinated "vehicle-pile-grid" chain and improving performance from charging end to operation end, it not only innovates vehicle-grid interaction but also reshapes user charging experience.
